[updated june|2022] Here are the rules for product recs:
these are my personal & professional opinions based on my person experiences on myself and clients. If you've heard me talk about it while sitting in my chair, it's here.
don't buy hair products off of Amazon - if you need a link for where to buy, I'm happy to find the correct one for you. (Amazon acts as a black market for repackaged/old product. we don't trust it.)
don't talk about fight club.
this shit is wet af. it can be kind of a lot so i like to dilute mine half and half with water in a separate, fine-mist spray bottle. (kinda extra but worth it.) use this as a re-styler (to rehydrate the product already in your hair) or as a wash-and-go deal
just spray your hair til it's damp or wet, set it and forget it like Ron Popeil
if you're a cream-person, this one is almost no hold, it's very loose. you can't really fuck it up or put too much (more is always better, actually).
combine this with an oil or with a gel as a part of the moisture element of your routine. use it solo for curls that don't need much. i would call this good for all hair types because of how light it can be
this is an oil based re-styler - kind of like the bounce.me but absolutely zero hold. i love this for all hair types - might be a tad much for fine hair but if your fine hair is curly, it won't be. trust me. a little goes a long way.
spray this on day 2+ hair to revive your product from day 1 or put it in straight-up-raw if your hair tends to be dry and frizzy. also, this is a great protectant from the sun - bring it to the beach - really let oil take over your whole life :)
The Advanced Climate Control line from Quidad is pretty great - I've been using it on folks for the last 2 years or so and there's so many ways to use them and your general practice should include a gel, cream, re-styler, oil and a leave-in conditioner. You won't necessarily need all of them all at once and you might not use one of them for a whole year but if you get the team together, they'll be available for when your texture decides to act up or act different, in general.
I did not post THIS gel even tho I use it a lot only because i don't find it extra special. To me, a gel can kinda just be... a gel. It's always an alcohol based product with differing holds and it's kind of a trial and error for most folks. I mix the/any gel with oil to dilute the hold - it works for MOST gels.
This is actually a rec from one of my fav curly clients, Mel. She's been a"curly person" for ages. It's basically a 'nothing' hairspray. It will give your girls a set that isn't crunchy and you can add some to your hair the next couple days also. I'm posting this having never used it in case anyone wants to scoop it up and give me feedback on it!
The real star of your show should be a continuous spray water bottle. I don't care where you get it but just do it. If you let me know ahead of time I can bring one to your appointment for you and show you how to use it.
LEAVE-IN CONDITIONERS
these are my favorite but there are a lot that work great. I think these are fairly priced, professional products that do a great job.
